COUNSELING FOR ANTI-CORRUPTION STRATEGIES IN THE ECONOMY

Prof. Dr. Gjorgji Filipov and Dipl. Eng. Vancho Damjanski, executive director of the Agency for Intellectual Property Berin, participated in the event “Anti-corruption strategies in the economy”, prepared by the German – Macedonian Business and Austrian-Macedonian business association as well as The Netherlands and American Chamber of Commerce in Macedonia. The introduction was given by Robert Cerasoli expert and former inspector general of the state of Massachusetts and in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. Representatives of Macedonian and foreign companies, that have their own companies or offices in Macedonia, exchanged experiences on the problem of corruption in the US, Europe and Macedonia. After the event, the Agency representatives, Filipov and Damjanski talked with Cerassoli and exchanged views on anti-corruption practices in the US, Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Japan and Macedonia. The event appeared to confirm that corruption is everywhere, but the fight against corruption is not everywhere with the same intensity. The results depend on the behavior of the authorities, the judicial system, but also on the companies and their willingness to respond appropriately to the attempts of corruption and extortion by civil servants, politicians, directly or through intermediaries. We thank to the organizers for counseling and to Mr. Cerasoli for sharing his personal experiences in the fight against corruption.
